According to UNESCO, the Belarusian language belongs to the group of languages that are threatened with extinction. In the Atlas of world languages in danger, it is designated as vulnerable. This is the first of four steps on the path to extinction.
According to statistics, on average only 3% of respondents do this. But an average of 43.5% of the population speaks the so-called "trasianka". People use it to communicate in stores, with friends, in the family. But about 18.5% read publications in the Belarusian language.
  • Why do you think so few Belarusians speak Belarusian?
  • What will happen to our language in a few years? How can we avoid the extinction of our language?

  1. Honestly, I support an idea about speaking Belarusian everywhere and always. The problem of our language is a historical problem... By the way, Belarusian language was banned as Belarus wasn't an independent country. Belarus was a part of Lithuania, Poland, Russia and the USSR. Of course, every country wanted to their language was a national. So, people just forgot Belarusian language. I think, if our government won't take any action, Belarusian language will die as Latin and Pascal ABC haha. And honestly, that's not too good. And our country needs to have own currency, language, territory. Without these factors, Belarus is not Belarus... Every person can help our language to live. Just say a one word on Belarusian per day. If everybody will do it, people will see it's beauty and melody
